以魚油代替精神科藥物
Given fish oils instead of anti-psychotic drugs 3,000
children could have been given fish oils instead of anti-psychotic
drugs despite safety fears.
The number of British children being given controversial
anti-psychotic drugs has increased sharply, according to research.
As many as 3,000 children were administered the unlicensed
drugs between 1996 and 2005, despite concerns from experts
that they could cause long-term harm and even death. Doctors
gave out twice as many prescriptions for the medication in
2005 as in 1992, even though they are not licensed to be given
to children.
In most cases, the drugs have been given to children with
behavioural and personality disorders, autism and hyperactivity.
Research has shown, however, that these conditions can be
managed and controlled safely through regular supplementation
with fish oils.
A daily dose of fish oil is better at treating hyperactivity
than Ritalin – the 'chemical cosh' linked to the deaths of
children, research in 2006 revealed.
Supplementing with a highly purified fish oil supplement
daily can vastly improve children's behaviour without any
of the side-effects of Ritalin and related drugs.
The controversial drugs can cause heart problems, dizziness
and insomnia and have been blamed for the deaths of nine children
in the UK and dozens more in the US.
In 2005, a study by Durham Local Education Authority showed
that omega-3 can improve the brainpower and concentration
of hyperactive children.
The 2006 findings, from the University of Adelaide, were
the first to show that omega-3 fish oil may be better than
medication at treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
The compound, which occurs naturally in oily fish such as
salmon, mackerel and tuna, is responsible for a range of health
benefits, from combating heart disease to boosting intelligence.
Despite this, most people eat just a fifth of the amount
recommended for good health. The number of hyperactive children
on medication is soaring, with a staggering 330,000 prescriptions
written out each year, or 6,350 a week.
The fact of the matter is that most people do not consume
enough oily fish to reap the benefits of fatty acids, so supplementation
with fish oils is a more viable option for many.
Fatty acids play an important part in the functioning of
every living cell in the body.
Specifically they may help the body in several ways including:
improving the circulatory system, aiding concentration, maintaining
a well-balanced state of mind and keeping joints in good condition.
Omega product is a patented and highly concentrated formulation
of ultra-pure EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) from marine fish
oil and GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) from organic virgin evening
primrose oil, providing a highly concentrated source of omega-3
& -6 longchain fatty acids and botanical triterpenes.
This unique combination of natural fatty acids provides cell
membranes with the nutrients required for efficient chemical
signalling integral to healthy brain function. Just two capsules
daily can help to reverse a fatty acid deficiency by increasing
the amount of phospholipids in brain-cell membranes. As a
result, messaging between neurons improves, and behavioural
symptoms decrease. An increasing number of doctors and nutrition
experts are using omega product to treat the symptoms ADHD and other
behavioural and emotional problems in both children and adults.
